At first glance, the Hatsan Air Rifle Factor Sniper L 5.5 Caliber Black looks like an FX Impact MK II knock-off. Like the Impact, it runs a sizeable magazine capacity. However, Hatsan avoids the bullpup configuration entirely. Instead, the rifle loads its large self-indexing magazine through a breech slot cut into the Picatinny rail.
That design choice immediately sets it apart and gives it a more traditional balance and handling feel than most “Impact-style” rifles.
Long-Range Performance and Barrel Setup
Setting comparisons aside, Hatsan clearly built the Factor Sniper for long-distance shooting, and it can comfortably push out to 150 meters even though it remains unregulated.
The rifle uses a generous 23-inch (585mm) barrel, which Hatsan shrouds for sound suppression. The shroud locks firmly in place and does not remove easily. At the barrel tip, Hatsan includes a thread protector that hides a 1/2″ UNF thread, making it compatible with the range of silencers we stock.
Hatsan also leaves the barrel free-floating and does not include a barrel band. That matters because while a barrel band can improve shot consistency, it also changes barrel harmonics. If you later decide to convert the barrel into a captured system, you will need to contact us for a solution.
Receiver and Trigger System
Hatsan fits the rifle with a metal alloy receiver, which adds rigidity and improves overall durability. Additionally, the rifle features the well-known 3-point adjustable QUATTRO trigger, giving you a crisp and tunable trigger pull.
Picatinny Rail and Mounting Space
The rifle includes a 9mm elevated Picatinny rail, giving plenty of scope clearance and mounting flexibility. The rail measures:
- 115mm at the rear
- 42mm on the frontal side
As a result, mounting a scope plus additional accessories remains straightforward.
Stock Design and Adjustability
Hatsan uses receiver-end AR-15 stock threading, which means the rifle should accept AR-15 compatible stocks from UTG and similar brands.
The factory stock itself offers 4-point adjustability, and importantly, it shows almost zero play, unlike some lower-end Hatsan PCP platforms.
The buttplate comes rubberised, slightly curved, and horizontally slitted to improve vertical traction. Meanwhile, the synthetic cheekpiece adjusts upward in multiple tight increments and remains fully ambidextrous, making it lefty-friendly.
Near the toe of the stock, Hatsan includes a 45-degree downward sling slot for loop-through sling mounting. However, the front of the rifle only offers a 5-slot Picatinny rail, so shooters who want a front sling mount will need to add a sling swivel adapter or mount an ARCA rail with a sling point.
Handling and Ergonomics
Hatsan equips the rifle with an AR-15-style pistol grip and rubberises it for improved handling and comfort. Despite its tactical layout, the rifle does not feel excessively heavy.
However, the forward grip area requires a bit of adaptation. You can either grip the rifle around the aluminium bottle or attach a foregrip (as illustrated). Alternatively, you can mount a bipod to the base rail if you prefer rested shooting.
Cocking Lever and Operation
The rifle uses a dual-pronged short cocking lever, allowing the shooter to cock the rifle using both the index and middle fingers on either side of the lever shaft. This setup improves control and makes cycling smoother.
The vertical finger nubs protrude roughly 15mm, which should suit most hand sizes.
The cocking lever also runs spring-loaded, so it will jump outward if you pull it out and fail to retain it.
Power Settings and Tuning
Hatsan makes the rifle externally adjustable, which gives the shooter a wide tuning range.
On the left side of the receiver, Hatsan provides three positive selector positions, clearly numbered from lowest to highest. On the right side, the rifle features a hammer spring adjustment dial that rotates vertically.
Out of the box, the rifle ships on its highest setting. However, shooters may need to detune it for improved grouping. For example:
- For better consistency, you may need to detune to around 920 FPS
- For lighter pellets (13–15 grain), you may need to drop further to 870–850 FPS
Slugs, on the other hand, tolerate higher velocities far better. Since they do not suffer the same aerodynamic instability after crossing the sound barrier, they can shoot cleanly at 60 meters while still retaining a strong ballistic coefficient.
Air Tank and Filling
Hatsan fits the rifle with a horizontally mounted aluminium bottle under the barrel. It holds 0.5L (500 cm³) and fills up to 250 BAR.
On factory settings, this capacity should deliver roughly 100 optimal shots. If you detune the rifle, you can push that up to 130 shots, and in some cases even 150.
Hatsan integrates the fill probe vertically under the front of the receiver. The fill port opening provides generous clearance, so most female quick couplers can connect easily without awkward angles.
Loading and Shooting
The magazine loads like most self-indexing systems. You load the last round in reverse, fully winding the spring tension. After that, you can load the remaining 20 rounds in sequence.
To insert the magazine, hinge out the cover plate and slide the magazine in from right to left. Afterwards, disengage the cocking lever so the probe can chamber the first pellet into the breech.
Unlike semi-auto PCP rifles, the Hatsan Air Rifle Factor Sniper L 5.5 Caliber Black requires manual cocking between shots. While this reduces the rate of fire, it provides several advantages for long-range shooting. Manual cycling encourages slower, more deliberate shooting, improves shot discipline, and suits precision setups far better than rapid semi-auto firing.
